How to crochet an alpine Soldanella

In the high mountains, in extreme environmental conditions, nature selects poor but resistant

vegetation. The Soldanella alpina has delicate and fragile flowers but only in appearance, since it has the strength to withstand the harsh temperatures of the high mountains. Soldanella alpina is the second flower that is part of the composition of alpine flowers.

To make the crochet Soldanella alpina you need to prepare the flower, the pistil, the cup and the leaves. Needed: cotton number 10 and number 20 - 1.0 mm crochet hook - 0.45 mm galvanized iron wire - scissors - plasticized iron wire - pliers - cotton wool. 

For the leaves use cotton number 10, for everything else number 20. 

Explanation of the flower 

Start 4 chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12). 1st round: 12 double crochet. 2nd round: 16 double crochet (one increase every 2 points). 3rd round: 7 chains and in these make 6 single crochet, 1 slip stitch. Repeat the same for the entire round. Make all the flowers you need for your composition. Model with your hands. 

Explanation of the pistil 

Start 4 chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10). 1st round: 10 double crochet. 2nd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round. Cut about 10 cm of galvanized iron wire and wrap a bit of cotton wool in the center. Twist the wire around itself for about 3 cm. Insert the stem of union of the flower in the pistil and close the second round. 3rd round: 2-3 slip stitches and close the work. 

For the pistil to be inserted in the main stem, cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Curve a tip twice to form a knot and insert it into the bud. Close the second round of the pistil. 3rd round: 2-3 slip stich. 

Explanation of the chalice 

Start 7 chains and in these make 5 slip stitches, 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. 6 chain stitches and in these make 5 slip stitches. Repeat the same for a total of 5 times. 

Insert the pistil with the union stem into the flower and then into the glass. Cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it. Insert the flower and the calyx into the pistil of the main stem. Fasten the other flowers with the union stem about 3 cm from the flower. Cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it, except about 3 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

Slightly bend the stem of the flower and shape with your hands.

Explanation of the leaf

Cut about 8 cm of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate thickness and using pliers to bend a ring tip. Inside work the leaf. 1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 triple crochet, 3 double triple crochet, 3 triple crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Turn the work. 2nd round: 2 single crochet in one point 3 times, 2 half double crochets in one point 3 times, 2 double crochet in one point 3 times, 2 triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 double triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 double crochet in one point 3 times, 2 half double crochets in one point 3 times, 2 single crochets in one point 3 times. 1 single crochet inside the circle. 

Cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it, except about 3 cm that will be inserted into the vase. Using pliers, press the 2 sides of the circle to close it. 

Make all the leaves you need for your composition. Arrange the flowers in the center of the vase and all around the leaves. 

Model everything with your hands.
