How to crochet a Rosehip

A beautiful wild rose that we usually find climbing in the bushes of the Mediterranean scrub to delight us throughout the spring.

In autumn the rose hip gives us instead its precious berries rich in many properties.

Rosa canina is the third plant that is part of the composition of dry branches.

To make the crochet dog rose it is necessary to prepare the berries and the branches of various sizes.

Needed: Cotton number 20 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - plasticized wire - pliers - wadding.

Explanation of the berry

With the black cotton, start 4 little chains and in the first one make 9 high points (total 10).

Cotton color change.

1st and 2nd round: 20 double crochet.

3rd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole lap. Cut about 8 cm of galvanized iron wire and in the middle wrap a little cotton wool or cotton wool. Twist the iron wire on itself to block the wadding and create a small stem of about 3 cm. Insert the ball of cotton wool into the berry and close the third round. If you need to insert another wadding.

Lap 4: with 5-6 slip stitch close the work.

Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. On a tip wrap a little cotton wool. Using a pincer, bend a bit to block the wadding and insert it inside a berry at the end of the third lap and continue until the work is finished.

To make the secondary branches longer that will be connected to the main stem and on which the smaller branches will be tied, cut about 20 cm of galvanized iron wire, wrap the cotton wool in the middle and create a small stem of about 3 cm twisting the iron thread on himself. Keep the job outstanding. Make all the small and medium branches that are needed to create the branch of rose hip berries.

Cover the small branches with the cotton by working around the chains. Cover also the medium branches for about 3 cm and without cutting the cotton join a small branch by twisting 2-3 times the wire of the 2 branches, cut the shorter pieces of wire.

Use the same procedure to fasten the other smaller branches and twist the remaining wire on itself to create the middle branch that will be connected to the main stem. Cover it with cotton as you progress. Leave about 2 cm free on each side that will serve to fasten the branch to the main stem.

In my composition there are 4 medium branches and in these there are 3, 4 or 2 small branches.

Fasten all the branches to the main stem and cover everything with the cotton working around the chains. Bend the tip down to stop the work by using a clamp.

Shape it all with your hands.

Of course mine is just an example that you can modify and customize with your imagination according to your creation.

The branches of rosehip berries are very beautiful so sa sole or to be included in a composition with other dry branches.

I hope I have explained everything to the best and wish good creation to all.

See you soon. Bye.
