How to crochet Borage (Starflower)
A spontaneous herb that produces many blue stars. In addition to brightening up the garden with its beautiful flowers, borage is also very useful as it attracts numerous pollinating insects. Used since ancient times as a medicinal plant food resource.
To make the crochet borage it is necessary to prepare the petal section, the central section, the pistil, the bud, the calyx, the seed and the leaves which are of two different sizes.
Required: Cotton number 20 and 10 - crochet 1.0 mm - scissors - wadding - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - pliers - plasticized iron wire. For the leaves I used the number 10, for everything else the number 20.
Explanation of the section of petals
Cast on 13 chain stitches and in these make 11 single crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. 12 chain stitches and in these make 11 single crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first initial chain stitch. Repeat the same a total of 5 times.
1st round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one stitch, 3 triple crochet, 2 double crochet in one stitch, 1 half double crochet, 1 single crochet, 2 slip stitches. Do the same on the other side. Repeat for a total of 5 petals.
Central section explained
Explanation of the pistil
Cut about 10 cm of galvanized iron wire and wrap a little wadding in the center. Twist the iron wire on itself for about 3 cm, the remaining iron wire will be used to attach the flower to the stem. Insert it into the pistil.
1st round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round.
2nd round: 1-2 slip stitches and finish the job.
Explanation of the bud
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).
1st round: 10 double crochet.
Cut about 10 cm of galvanized iron wire and wrap a little wadding in the center. Twist the iron wire on itself for about 3 cm. Insert into the bud.
2nd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round.
3rd round: 2-3 slip stitch stitches and finish the job.
Explanation of the chalice
Cast on 10 chain stitches and make them: 4 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. 9 chain stitches and do these: 4 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first initial chain stitch. Repeat a total of 5 times.
Explanation of the seed
To make the seed cut about 10 cm of galvanized iron wire and wrap a little black cotton in the center to form a ball (it will be the seed). Twist the iron wire on itself for about 3 cm. Insert the seed into the glass.
Wrap the seed with the glass and cover the union stem with the cotton by working around the chains.
Insert the glass into the bud. Wrap the bud with the glass and cover the small stem with cotton by working the chains around it.
Compose the flower by inserting the central section, the petal section and the calyx in the pistil, placing the tips between one petal and the other. Cover the small stem by working the chains around it.
Explanation of the medium leaf
Cast on 25 chain stitches. Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete turn of the chains plus another 3 cm more per side and insert it to them by working around the single crochet, 24 on one side and 24 on the other.
1st round: 4 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 6 triple crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 2 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 4 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side.
2nd round: 4 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 6 double crochet (make 2 increases), 9 triple crochet (make 3 increases), 6 double crochet (make 2 increases), 2 half double crochet, 4 single crochet.
Tighten the leaf well, twist the iron wire around itself for about 1 cm and cover it with cotton by working the chains around it. The remaining wire will be used to connect the leaf to the stem.
Make all the leaves, buds, seeds and flowers that are needed for your composition.
Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. On a tip, wrap a little cotton wool and bend it with the help of pliers. Insert a bud following the same procedure as in the previous explanation.
Fasten other buds to the stem, then the flowers with some medium leaves, finally the seeds and some other leaves.
Make 2 more compliant stems. Cover the stems with cotton by working around the chains.
Cover the last 15 cm of stem by joining the other stems to create a single stem, except for about 2 cm which will be inserted in the vase.
Explanation of the large leaf
Cast on 35 chain stitches. Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete turn of the chains plus another 3 cm more per side. Insert the iron wire to the chains by working around the low points, 34 on one side and 34 on the other.
1st round: 4 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 4 triple crochet, 4 double triple crochet, 4 triple crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 4 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side.
2nd round: 4 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 8 double crochet (make 3 increases), 6 triple crochet (make 2 increases), 6 double triple crochet(make 2 increases), 6 triple crochet (make 2 increases) ), 8 double crochet (make 3 increases), 3 half double crochet, 4 single crochet. Repeat the same as the other top.
Tension the leaf well, twist the iron wire on itself for about 3 cm. Cover the small stem created for about 1 cm by working around the chains. The rest will be used to insert the leaf into the vase.
Make all the large leaves needed for your composition.
Place the borage seedling in the center of the pot and the large leaves around it.
As always, I hope I have explained everything better and given you one more idea.
At the next creation, hello everyone.
