How to crochet Wild Garlic
A very common herbaceous plant that here in Sardinia is found above all in damp and shady places. Widely used in antiquity as today is done with the common garlic, small bulbs were used to flavor soups and legumes.
Wild garlic is also very decorative with its fragrant and delicate little flowers.
To make the wild garlic crochet it is necessary to prepare the petal section, the central section, the calyx, the bud and the leaf.
Required: cotton number 20 - 1.0 mm crochet hook - 0.45 mm galvanized iron wire - scissors - wadding - plasticized iron wire - pliers.
Explanation of the section of petals
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 11 double crochet (total 12).
1st round: 9 chain stitches and in these make 8 single crochet. 1 single crochet. 1 slip stitch. Repeat the same a total of 6 times.
2nd round: 1 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 1 single crochet, 3 slip stitch. Repeat the other side of the single crochet. Repeat the same a total of 6 times.
Central section explained
Cast on 10 chain stitches and in these make 8 slip stitch, 1 slip stitch in the first of the 10 chain stitches. 9 chain stitches and in these make 8 slip stitch, 1 slip stitch in the first initial chain stitch. Repeat a total of 6 times.
Explanation of the pistil
Cast on 7 chain stitches and do them: count 3 chain stitches backwards and in the fourth chain make 1 double crochet and 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first of the 7 chain stitches. 6 chain stitches and do these: count 3 chain stitches backwards and in the fourth chain make 1 double crochet and 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first initial chain stitch. Repeat the same one more time. In total you will have 3 tips.
Explanation of the chalice
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).
Cut about 10 cm of galvanised iron wire and in the center wrap a little cotton (the same shade used for the pistil) to form a small ball. Twist the iron wire on itself for about 2 cm to block the cotton and create the small stem of the flower.
Insert the pistil, the central section, the section of the petals and the calyx in order.
Cover the small stem with cotton by working around the chains, the rest will be used to attach the flower to the main stem.
If the central section does not remain adherent to the section of the petals, use a pin of glue placing the tips in the center of the petals.
Explanation of the bud
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).
1st round: 10 double crochet.
2nd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round. Cut about 8 cm of galvanised iron wire and wrap some cotton wool in the center. Twist the iron wire on itself for about 1 cm to block the wadding and create the union stem of the bud. Insert the iron wire inside the bud and close the second turn.
3rd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round.
4th round: 1-2 slip stitch and finish the job.
Insert the glass into the stem of the bud and cover it with cotton by working around the chains.
Make all the flowers and buds you need for your composition.
Cut a piece of plasticised iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Bend a tip 2 times to form a knot, use pliers to help. Immediately under the knot fasten the flowers and buds. Cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it, except for about 2 cm which will be inserted into the vase.
To cover the knot create a dome: cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 11 triple crochet (total 12). Sew it to the stem.
Slightly bend the stem of the flowers and buds.
Explanation of the leaf
Cast on 50 chain stitches. Cut a piece of galvanised iron wire that makes the complete turn of the chains plus 2 cm more per side. Insert it on the chains by working around 49 single crochet on one side and the other.
1st round: 29 half double crochet, 10 single crochet, 10 slip stitch. Repeat the same thing on the other side of the single crochet.
Stretch the leaf well by modelling it with your hands. Twisting the iron wire on itself for about 2 cm will be used to insert the leaf into the vase. Make all the leaves needed for the composition.
Model everything with your hands.
Insert the stem with the flowers and buds in the center of the vase and the leaves all around.
As always I hope to have explained everything clearly and to have given you an idea more.
