How to crochet an Aquilegia

A beautiful plant that enchants with its colorful flowers and their complicated and elegant structure. The aquilegia includes many varieties much appreciated for decorating the gardens. A rustic plant as it naturally lives in spontaneous conditions even in extreme conditions.

To make crochet aquilegia, prepare the section of petals, the central section, the pistil, the spurs, the bud and the leaves.

Needed: cotton number 20 - 1.0 mm crochet - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - wadding - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

Explanation of the section of petals

Start 5 little chains and ask them in a circle.

1 lap: 13 little chains and in these do: 12 single crochet. 1 single crochet in the initial circle. Repeat equal a total of 5 times.

2nd round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at one point, 2 triple crochet 2 double crochet at a point, 2 half double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 slip stitch. Repeat same from the other side in reverse. 1 slip stitch. Redo for a total of 5 petals.

Explanation of the central section

Start 6 little chains and close them in a circle.

1st round: 2 little chains, 2 double crochet, 2 little chains, 1 slip stitch. Repeat a total of 5 times.

2nd round: Cotton color change. 2 little chains, 1 slip stitch in the 2 chains of the previous lap. 3 little chains and 1 triple crochet at one point, 2 double triple crochet at one point for 2 times, a triple crochet and 2 little chains at one point. 1 slip stitch, 2 little chains and 1 slip stitch in the initial circle of 6 little chains. Repeat a total of 5 times.

Explanation of the pistil

Start 5 little chains and close them in a circle.

1st round: 7 little chains and 1 single crochet. Repeat for a total of 7 arches.

Explanation of the spur

Start 5 little chains and close them in a circle.

1st round: 12 little chains and in these: 4 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 3 double crochet. 1 slip stitch. Repeat equal a total of 5 times.

If you need to starch the tips, much depends on the type of cotton used.

To create the stem, cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the length and thickness appropriate to the work being carried out. On a tip wrap several times of yellow cotton to form a small ball. Bend the tip with the aid of a plier to block the work.

Insert in order: the pistil, the central section, the section of petals and the spurs.

Cover the stem with the cotton working around the chains, except for about 2 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

Slightly curl the stem at the height of the flower and shape it all with your hands.

Explanation of the bud

Start 4 little chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st round: 20 double crochet.

2nd round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole lap. Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of adequate length to the bud and on a bit wrap some cotton wool or cotton wool. Bend the tip with the help of a plier to block the cotton. Insert the stem inside the bud and close the second round.

3rd round: 5 little chains and in these: 2 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, skip a base point. 1 slip stitch. Repeat a total of 5 times.

Lap 4: 5 slip stitch between one tip and the other and close the work.

Cover the stem with the cotton working around the chains, except for about 2 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

Slightly bend the stem to the height of the bud and shape with your hands.

Explanation of the leaf

The leaf is composed of 3 elements to be sewn separately in a small stem.

Start 4 little chains and in the first make 7 double crochet (total 8). Turn the job.

1st round: 3 double crochet, 3 triple crochet in one point for 2 times, 3 double crochet. Turn the job.

2nd round: 5 double crochet, 3 triple crochet in one point for 2 times, 5 double crochet. Turn the job.

3rd round: 2 little chains and 1 double crochet in one point, 1 triple crochet, 1 double crochet and 2 little chains in one point. 1 slip stitch. Repeat another time. Then make: 2 little chains and 1 double crochet in a stitch, 2 double crochet twice in one stitch twice, 1 double crochet and 2 little stitches in one stitch. 1 slip stitch. 2 little chains and 1 double crochet in a point, 1 triple crochet, 1 double crochet and 2 little chains in one point. 1 slip stitch. Repeat same again.

Close the work by holding the cotton a little long.

Make 2 more elements to create a leaf.

Cut about 20 cm (someone even from 15 and 10 cm) of galvanized iron wire and fold it in half. Hold the center with a forceps and twist it on itself. In the small hole that has been created on the top insert the crochet and cover the stem of the leaf with the cotton working around the chains, except for about 2 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

Insert the needle into the cotton of an element of the leaf and with 2-3 stitches reach the center at the bottom. Sew the leaf to the stem. One will go to the top and the other 2 to the sides facing each other.

Slightly bend the stem of the leaf and shape it all with your hands.

Insert the flowers and buds in the center of the vase and around the leaves.
