How crochet a Wild thistle

That of the wild thistles is a large family and many are appreciated both in the culinary and medicinal fields. With due attention to its many thorns, the wild thistle when it is now dry also becomes a beautiful decorative plant.

The thistle is the first plant that is part of the composition of dry branches.

To make the crochet thistle you need to prepare: the flower head, the floral tuft and small leaves.

Needed: cotton number 20 - crochet 1.0mm - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45mm - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

Explanation of the flower head

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: 15 double crochet (total 16).

1st round: 32 double crochet.

2nd round: 4 double crochet, 9 little chains and in these: 4 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch. Repeat equal a total of 8 times.

3rd round: fold the tips forward and always make 32 double crochet plus an increase above each tip. In total there will be 40 double crochet.

Lap 4: 3 double crochet, 11 little chains and in these do: 5 single crochet, 5 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch. Repeat a total of 8 times but starting with 5 double crochet.

Turn the work over to get the tips of the spines out.

Make all the flower heads you need for your composition. If the tips of the spines are to be starched.

For the main stem cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the length and thickness appropriate to the work being carried out.

To create the floral tuft to be placed inside the head, create a fairly thick cotton skein by wrapping the cotton several times on 3 fingers of the hand. Fold it in half and in the middle block it by bending a tip of the stem 2 times. Press well with the pincer, making sure that the skein is firm.

Insert the tuft inside the flower head and shape it by cutting the excess with the scissors.

To create the secondary branches, cut about 25 cm of galvanized iron wire, in the middle place the cotton skein and tie the wire to lock it. Twist the remaining wire to create the branch except for 2 cm on each side that will serve to fasten it to the main stem. Insert the tuft inside the head and cover the cotton branch working around the chains.

Create all the branches that you need for your composition and tie them to the main stem, also covering with cotton, working around the chains.

Small leaves will be sewn near the union of the secondary branches to the stem.

Explanation of the leaf

Start 17 little chains

1st round: 2 single crochet. 1 slip stitch 3 little chains and a double crochet at a point. A half double crochet, 1 single crochet, 1 slip stitch 3 little chains and a double crochet at a point. A half double crochet 1 single crochet. Repeat for a total of 4 tips. 2 single crochet. Make the other side of the chains the same on the contrary.

If you want to make a prickly stem like mine, every 20 little chains make: 3 little chains and in these you make: a low point, a half double crochet. Repeat along the entire length of the stem.
