Crochet fat plant explanation: Kalanchoe

A gracious succulent also called "plant of the smile" as it cheers up any environment with its small and colorful flowers. Kalanchoe is a plant native to Madagascar, much appreciated not only for its copious and elegant flowering, but also for its ease of cultivation.

Kalanchoe is the first plant that is part of the composition of crochet fat plants 2020.

To make the crocheted Kalanchoe it is necessary to prepare the flowers and the leaves which are of two different sizes.

Needed: cotton number 10 and number 20 - crochet 1.0 mm - scissors - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - plasticized iron wire - pliers.
For the leaves I used cotton number 10, for the rest the number 20.

Explanation of the flower
Start 3 chains and in the first make 1 high point, 1 pippiolino (1 chain and 1 slip stitch), 2 chains, 1 slip stitch in the first chain. Do: 2 chains, 1 double crochet, 1 pippiolino, 2 chains, 1 slip stitch in the first chain. Repeat the same for a total of 4 petals.

Make all the flowers you need for your kalanchoe.

Each little flower has its small stem. To make the small shank, cut a piece of galvanized iron wire about 8 cm long. At about two cm from a point, wrap yellow cotton several times to form a small ball that will be the pistil of the flower. Block the cotton by twisting the wire on itself two or three times. Cut the cotton and the shorter piece of the remaining wire. The remaining wire will be covered with cotton working around the chains for about two cm. This work will be done for every little flower.

Make bunches of three flowers each by twisting each wire three or four times and each time cutting the extra wire (only one will remain).
Make a total of four bunches of three small flowers each. Join them together by always twisting the wire on itself. When you fasten the last bundle, continue twisting the wire around two centimeters to create a single stem for all the flowers. The remaining wire will be used to connect the corolla of small flowers to the stem of the plant.

Explanation of the large leaf

Start 22 chains.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete turn of the chains plus about 2 cm more per side. Join it to the chains working on it around 21 low points on one side and 21 on the other side of the chains.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at one point, 7 triple crochet, 2 double crochet at one point, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat equal to the other high. 1 slip stitch in the middle of the wire to reach the other side.
2nd round: 2 single crochet, in a single point do: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, in a single point do: 1 double crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 single crochet. Repeat the same for the whole turn of the leaves.

In total there will be five ridges per leaf side and one at the top.

Wrap the wire on itself for about one cm and cover the small stem with the cotton, working the chains around it. The remaining wire will be used to connect the leaf to the stem.
Make all the leaves you need.

Explanation of the medium leaf

The procedure is identical to that of the large leaf, only the points change.

Start 18 chains. Work around the wire 17 single crochet per side.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at one point, 3 triple crochet, 2 double crochet at one point, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat on the other side.
2nd round: identical to that of the large leaf, there will be one less ridge per side of leaf.

Make all the leaves you need.
Cut a piece of plasticized wire of the thickness and length appropriate to the work being carried out. Using a pair of pliers to bend a tip to form a knot. On top of this knot fasten the bunch of small flowers. Immediately below, fasten two middle leaves in front of each other. Continue to fasten a couple of medium leaves, following the large leaves, continuing to fill the stem for the desired height.

Cover the stem with the cotton, working the chains around it, except for about two cm that will be inserted into the vase.
Arrange everything by shaping with your hands.
Admire your kalanchoe now.
Have fun choosing the various shades of colors letting yourself be inspired by your imagination.

Mine is just one example that I hope I have explained to the fullest.

Good creation to all the next hello.
