How to crochet a Nasturtium

A very beautiful ornamental plant that cannot be missing in a vegetable garden, as its showy flowers are very loved by bees. Also known as tropeol, nasturtium has a delicate flower which is also edible.
To make the crochet nasturtium you need to prepare the flower, the bud, the calyx and the leaves which are of two different sizes.
Required: cotton number 20 - 1.0 mm crochet hook - scissors - 0.45 mm galvanized iron wire - pliers - plasticized iron wire - glue (optional).

Explanation of the flower
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st round: 10 double crochet.
2nd round: 2 double crochet in one point 2 times. Turn the job.
3rd round: 2 double crochet in one point, 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point. Turn the job.
4th round: 2 double crochet in one point, 4 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point. Turn the job.
5th round: 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one stitch 6 times, 1 half double crochet crochet. Turn the job.
6th round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one stitch 2 times, 2 triple crochet in one stitch 6 times, 2 double crochet in one stitch 2 times, 1 half double crochet, 1 single crochet.

Go down with slip stitch up to the 10 double crochet and repeat the same for a total of 5 petals.

To create the nuances in the center of the flower cut small pieces of cotton and with a pin of glue place them at the bottom in the center of each petal.

Explanation of the bud
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 3 double crochet (total 4).

Turn the piece and continue following the explanation of the flower petal from the 2nd to the 6th round. Then go down with slip stitch to the first initial chain and make another identical petal.

Make all the flowers and buds needed for your composition.

Explanation of the chalice

Cast on 9 chain stitches and make them: 3 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Always in the first chain stitch: 3 chain stitches and 9 double crochet.

1st round: 15 double crochet (increase every 2 points).
2nd round: 15 double crochet.
3rd round: 6 chain stitches and in these do: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 3 double crochet. Skip 2 base points, 1 slip stitch and repeat the same for a total of 5 points.

Cut about 25 cm of galvanized iron wire and in the center wrap a little cotton (same color as the flower or the bud) to form a small ball.

With the help of pliers, block the ball by twisting the iron wire on itself for about 10 cm, thus creating the connecting stem of both the flower and the bud. The remaining wire will be used to connect the flowers and buds to the main stem.

Insert the flower and the glass in order. Same work for the bud that will be shaped with your hands by closing the two petals a little.

Cover the union stem with cotton by working around the chains.

Shape everything with your hands by arranging the tips and the tail of the glass, if you need to starch.

Explanation of the large leaf
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 11 double crochet (total 12).

1st round: 24 double crochet.
2nd round: 36 double crochet (increase every 2 stitch).
3rd round: 54 double crochet (increase every 2 stitch).
4th round: 81 double crochet (increase every 2 stitch).

If you want to get a small ripple in the leaf, while working the 4th round, stop every 20 or 15 stitches and do: 1 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch, 2 chain stitches.

Explanation of the medium leaf
Same procedure as the big one with one lap less, then work until the third lap.

To create the joining stem of the leaf, cut about 25 cm of galvanized iron wire. Insert the 2 ends in the center of the initial 12 double crochet. Let it come out from underneath and twist it on itself.

Cover the stem with cotton by working around the chains.

Make all the leaves you need for your composition.

Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Bend a tip 2 times to form a knot (help with pliers).

Fasten medium and large leaves, buds and flowers alternately to the stem.

Cover the stem with cotton by working around the chains except for about 2 cm which will be inserted in the vase.

To cover the knot at the top of the stem, make a small dome: cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 11 triple crochet (total 12). Close the work keeping the cotton a little long and sew it to the stem.

Model everything with your hands.

Place the nasturtium seedling in the center of the pot and admire your masterpiece.
Mine of course is just one example that I hope as always to have explained the best by giving you an idea more.

At the next creation, hello everyone.
