How to crochet a Turmeric Flower

A plant that produces really wonderful flowers. Also known as "saffron of the Indies" turmeric is much appreciated for the healing properties of its rhizome, from which the prized spice is obtained.
To make the flower of the crocheted turmeric it is necessary to prepare the bracts, the pockets and the leaf.

Needs: cotton number 20 - crochet 1.0 mm - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - scissors - needle - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

Explanation of bractea

Start 20 chains.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 high double crochet, 2 double crochet, 3 triple crochet, 2 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Do the same on the other side of the chains.
2nd round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at 2 points, 1 triple crochet, 2 triple crochet at a point, 1 triple crochet, 2 double crochet at 2 points , 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat on the other side.

For each flower, make a total of 9 bracts.

Explanation of the pocket

Start 15 chains.

1st round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, 4 triple crochet, 1 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat on the other side of the chains.
2nd round: 1 single crochet, 2 half double crochet in one point, 2 double crochet in one point, 1 triple crochet, 2 triple crochet in a point, 1 triple crochet, 2 double crochet in a point, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side in reverse.

For each flower, make a total of 6 pockets.

To create the stem, cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the length and thickness suitable for the work being carried out. Using a pair of pliers to bend a tip twice to form a knot.

Starting from this knot, cover the stem with cotton, working the chains around it, except about 2-3 cm, which should be inserted into the vase.

To cover the knot, make a little dome to sew on.

Explanation of the dome

Start 5 chains and in the first do 14 triple crochet (total 15).

To make the flower sew the bratee around the top of the stem with 2-3 stitches. The first will be sewn around the little dome. All the others one in front of the other alternating positions.
Immediately under the bracts the pockets will be sewn. They also one in front of the other alternating positions.
Shape everything with your hands to obtain the characteristic shape, both of the bracts and of the pockets.

Explanation of the leaf

Start 71 chains.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire 2 times the length of the flower stem (approximately). Insert it on the leaf, work around it with a series of single crochet, on one side and on the other of the chains.

1st round: 10 single crochet, 10 half double crochet, 5 double crochet, 5 triple crochet, 10 double triple crochet, 5 triple crochet, 5 double crochet, 10 half double crochet, 10 single crochet. Repeat on the other side.
2nd round: identical to the first.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that has the same length as the one previously cut. Insert it on the leaf and work around it with a loop of single crochet. Keep work pending.
Stretch the leaf well shaping it with your hands. Twist an outer wire with a central one, first on one side and then on the other. Twist the two newly created stems further to obtain a single slightly sturdier stem.

Cover the stem of the leaf with the cotton, working the chains around it, except about 2-3 cm, which should be inserted into the vase.

The short leaf is identical to the longer leaf. While working it will only have to shorten the stem by about half.
Make all the leaves you need for your composition.
Stretch the leaves well shaping them with your hands giving it a natural curve.

Place the stems with the flower in the center of the vase and the leaves all around. The longer ones near the flower and externally the shorter ones.
