How to crochet a Star of bethlem

A small spontaneous flower used in flower therapy to treat the wounds of the soul, when everything seems to be off and uninteresting. But the Star of Bethlehem with its beautiful and white flowers is also used in the composition of the bride's bouquets.

To make the crochet Star of Bethlehem it is necessary to prepare the flower, the central section, the pistil, the calyx, the bud and the leaves.

Needed: cotton number 20 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - needle - cotton wool - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - pliers.

Explanation of the flower

Start 6 chains and close them in a circle.

1st round: 15 chains and in these do 14 single crochet. 1 slips stitch. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.

2nd round: 1 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 half double crochet in one stitch, 3 double crochet, 2 half double crochet in one stitch, 2 half double crochet, 4 single crochet. Do the same on the other side in reverse. 1 slip stitch. Repeat the same for a total of 6 petals.

Explanation of the central section

Start 5 chains and close in a circle.

1st round: 5 chains and in these do: 2 single crochet, 2 half double crochet. 1 single crochet in the circle. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.

On the tips give 3-4 stitches with the yellow cotton.

Explanation of the pistil

Start 4 chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).

Cut about 12 cm of galvanized iron wire, in the center wrap a little cotton of the same color used for the pistil and form a ball. Twist the wire on itself to block the cotton and create the stem of the flower about 5 cm long. The remaining wire will be used to tie it to the stem of other flowers.

Insert the wire in the pistil and with 3-4 slip stitch close the work.

Make another 3 flower stems of the same size plus another with a length of about 30 cm.

Explanation of the glass

Start 4 chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12).

1st round: 12 chains and in these do: 4 single crochet, 4 half double crochet, 3 double corchet, skip a base point, 1 slip stitch.

Repeat for a total of 6 times.

Make all the flowers with the central sections you need for your composition.

If necessary, starch both the flower and the glass, much depends on the type of cotton used.

Insert the pistil in the glass, in the flower and then in the central section. To make the glass adhere under the flower give some stitch or a pinch of glue.

Cover the stem of the first flower so made by working the chains around it. Also cover the stem of the second flower and tie it to the first with the wire that advances. Cut two pieces of wire, only two will remain. Doing so also for the third flower and the fourth. The fifth will be the one with the longest stem that once tied up four others will create the stem of the complete flower. When attaching to the fourth flower, do not cut the two pieces of wire, but fasten all four pieces, so as to have a sturdier stem.

Twist the wire on itself for about 12 cm and cover it with cotton, except about 2 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

Explanation of the bud

With the white cotton start 14 chains and in these make 12 single crochet, 1 slip stitch in the first chain. Always in the first chain make 13 chains and in these make 12 single crochet.

1st round: cotton color change (green).

In the 12 single crochet do: 2 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 2 half double crochet in one point, 3 double crochet, 2 half double crochet in one point, 1 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Do the same on the other side in reverse. 1 slip stitch. Repeat the same for a total of 2 petals.

Join the edges of the petals sideways up to half with some stitches.

Cut about 30 cm of galvanized iron wire, wrap a little cotton in the middle. Twist the wire on itself to block the wadding and create the stem of the bud. Insert the wire into the bud with the cotton wool inside.

Cover the stem with the cotton, working the chains around it, except for about 2 cm, which will be inserted into the vase.

Explanation of the leaf

Start 50 chains.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete chain of the chains plus 2 cm more and insert it around them working 49 single crochet on one side and 49 single crochet on the other. 1 very low point in the middle of the wire to reach the other side of the single crochet.

1st round: 1 slip stitch, 2 small chains to replace the first half double crochet which in total will be 29, then 10 single crochet, 10 slip stitch. Repeat the same on the other side in reverse.

Stretch the leaf well by shaping it with your hands and twist the remaining wire for about 2 cm on itself, to be able to insert the leaf into the vase.

Make all the leaves you need for your composition.

Insert the group of flowers in the center of the vase with the buds nearby and the leaves all around.
