How to crochet a Mistletoe

Good luck symbol of the new year and plant sacred to the ancients, to which many legends are linked. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that lives on the branches of various trees and its spread is due to the birds that feed on the berries.
To make the crochet mistletoe you need to prepare the berries, leaves, twigs and ribbon to make the bow.
Required: cotton number 10 and number 20 - crochet 1.0 mm - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - pliers.

For the leaves and to cover the twigs I used the number 10 cotton, for the rest the number 20.
To make the mistletoe branch you need to prepare twigs of 3 different sizes. 5 small sprigs are prepared, one medium and one large.

For the small twig, cut about 15 cm of galvanized iron wire, fold it in half and with the help of pliers, twist it on itself for about 5 cm, the remaining iron wire will serve to tie the twigs together, cover it with cotton by working around it the chains.

Make 5 sprigs in total.

For the medium twig, cut about 30 cm of iron wire and fold it in half and twist it on itself for about 5 cm. Cover it with cotton and, without cutting the cotton, fasten a small twig by connecting both parts of the wire between them for 2-3 times. Cut the 2 shorter pieces of iron wire and twist the remaining iron wire about 8 cm. Continue to cover the cotton twig.

For the largest branch, cut about 50 cm of galvanized iron wire, fold it in half and twist it on itself for about 5 cm. Cover it with cotton and, without cutting the cotton, fasten a small twig by twisting both sides of the wire together 2-3 times. Cut the 2 shorter pieces of iron wire and twist the remaining iron wire about 8 cm. Continue to cover the twig with cotton. Keep the cotton hanging and fasten the medium twig and 3 other small ones always in the same place and with the same procedure. Then twist the remaining wire on itself for another 5 cm and continue to cover it with cotton.

Block the wire with 2-3 turns around the twig at the bottom to prevent the work from undoing.

Make all the sprigs needed for your mistletoe bunch to hang.

Explanation of the leaf

Cast on 20 chain stitches.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 7 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat same as the other top of the chains.
2nd round: 1 chain stitch and turn piece.

Make the complete turn of the leaf by working 37 single crochet. 1 slip stitch on the other side of the leaf and close the work keeping the cotton a little long.

Make all the leaves you need for your composition. Sew the leaves paired in 2 at the ends of each sprig.

Explanation of the berry
Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round.
2nd round: 1-2 slip stitches and finish the job.

Insert black cotton into a needle and make a knot at one end. Insert the needle into the berry and pop it out on the other side. Stop the cotton inside and cut the extra cotton in the part of the knot. Only one black dot will remain on the outside of the berry.

Make all the berries needed for your composition and sew them in small groups of 3 or 5 near the union of the twigs.

Ribbon explanation
Cast on 7 chain stitches. Count 3 chain stitches backwards and from the fourth chain make 3 double crochet. Turn the job.

3 chain stitches to replace the first double crochet, 3 double crochet. Turn the piece over and continue with the same procedure for a total of 70 rounds.

Arrange the sprigs of mistletoe by modeling them with your hands and stop them with the ribbon making a bow.

Ready to hang as a auspicious symbol.

Mine of course is just an example that I hope as always to have explained the best and that you can modify and customize according to your imagination.

At the next creation, hello everyone.
