How to crochet a Daphne

Also known as a stick flower because its beautiful flowers also bloom at the end of winter in the still bare branches. Despite being a poisonous plant its lively bloom makes it a popular garden plant.

This flower is the third and also the last one that is part of the composition of winter flowers.
Needed: cotton number 20- 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - needle - 0.45 galvanized iron wire - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

To make the crochet dafne you need to prepare the branches, the flower, the pistil, the bud and the chalice.

To make the main branch you will cut a piece of plasticized wire around 40 cm long and the tips will be curved (helping with a clamp). In this branch two more twigs will be connected and to get them the galvanized wire is needed. If you cut a piece of about 20 cm and fold in half, then twists itself on itself except for 2 cm on each side that will be used to connect the small branch to the main. Before doing so, it will be covered with cotton by working around the chains. Of these twigs they will be 2 for each main branch.

Once the branches are connected, also the main branch will be covered with cotton working around the chains. On the top of the branch, to cover the curvature of the plasticized wire, you will make a small cuplet to be sewn on.

Explanation of the dome.

Start 5 little chains and in the first row make 11 triple crochet (total 12).

Close the work hold the cotton long and sew.

Now the branch is ready to be filled with little flowers and buds.

Explanation of the flower:

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: 7 double crochet (total 8).

1-2 lap: 8 double crochet.

3 round: a half double crochet  and a double crochet at one point, a double crochet and a half double crochet at one point. Turn the job.

4 lap: a half-high jersey and a high point at a point. A double crochet and a triple crochet at a point. A triple crochet and a double crochet at a point. A double crochet and a half double crochet at one point, turn the job.

5 lap: A half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 triple crochet in a point for 2 times, 2 double crochet, a half double crochet.

Go down with slip stitch up to the lap of the high points and redo the same for a total of 4 times.

Explanation of the pistil.

Start 4 little chains and in the first one make a double crochet and a slip stitch.

Then make 3 little chains, a double crochet and a slip stitch always in the first chain. Redo equal for a total of 4 times. Close and hold the cotton a little long. Insert the needle into the pistil and then into the flower making it come out from underneath. With 2-3 stitches stop the pistil.

Explanation of the bud.

The bud is green because it is the future leaves that are prepared.

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: 9 double crochet (total 10).

1 lap: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole lap.

2 round: with 2-3 slip stitch close the work.

Explanation of the glass.

Start 5 little chains and in the first step: a triple crochet, 3 little chains and a slip stitch.

Then make 4 little chains, a triple crochet, 3 little chains and a slip stitch always in the first chain. Repeat equal a total of 4 times. Close the work by holding the cotton a little long.

The glass is the same for both the flower and the bud. It should be sewn first to the flower and then directly to the branch. Same work for the bud.

Place the flowers all around the branches and the buds closer to the top.
