How to crochet a Pedro cactus

Hola amigos! I present Pedro a nice crochet cactus, born from a desire of my son: to find in his hands the real form of an image that he admired on the internet. I had fun assembling the various pieces together and seeing Pedro slowly taking shape in my hands

and now I'm glad to share the explanation with you. The list of the various pieces to be assembled is a bit 'long and it seems a huge thing to do but most are all small pieces that are done in a few minutes. This crochet cactus is composed of: a main trunk, 2 arms, sombrero, handkerchief, sheriff's belt, whiskers, mouth, eyes and eyebrows.
Required: cotton number 20 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - needle - plasticized iron wire - wadding - pliers.

Explanation of the trunk.

Start 5 little chains and close in a circle.

1 round: 15 double crochet.

2 rounds: 30 double crochet.

3 round: 60 double crochet.

From the 4th to the 11th lap, always 60 double crochet.

From the 12th to the 21st lap, decrease 2 points in each lap (at 21st we will have 40 double crochet).

From the 22nd to the 40th lap 40 double crochet.

Now we cut a piece of plasticized wire in the shape of a fork to be inserted into the trunk plus another 3-4 cm that will allow us to then insert it into the vase. Cover the wire with plenty of cotton wool or cotton wool especially on top and begin to insert it into the trunk and continue to insert the cotton wool until it has taken its beautiful shape.

Explanation of the arm.

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: 9 double crochet (total 10)

1 round: 20 double crochet.

2 round: 40 double crochet.

From the 3rd to the 8th lap 40 double crochet.

From the 9th to the 12th lap, decrease 2 points in each lap (in the 12th lap we would therefore have 32 double crochet).

From the 13th to the 15th lap work as follows: 4 single crochet, a half double crochet, 22 double crochet, a half double crochet, 4 single crochet.

16 lap: decrease 2 points (we will therefore have 30 double crochet).

From the 17th to the 22nd lap: 30 double crochet.

Once we have also prepared the other arm we will sew them to the trunk at the right height.

Explanation of the sombrero.

Start 4 little chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10)

1 round: 20 double crochet.

2 and 3 rounds: 40 double crochet.

4 rounds: 60 double crochet (we will therefore make 20 increases).

From 5 to 12 lap: always 60 double crochet.

13 lap: 80 double crochet.

14 rounds: 120 double crochet (we will therefore make 40 increases).

From 15 to 18 lap: always 120 double crochet.

19 lap: with red cotton we do: 4 single crochet, a half double crochet a double crochet and a half double crochet in a single point, we restart the same for the whole lap.

Once inserted in the top of the cactus the sombrero should remain still, if not so, sew it at the height of the 14th round, if then the tip of the sombrero should be padded with a little cotton wool.

Already begins to take shape, now we move to the side parts that will give the final form to Pedro.

Explanation of the handkerchief.

Start 70 little chains.

1 lap: 3 low points, 3 half high links, 57 high points, 3 high half links, 3 low points, turn the job.

2 rounds: 6 very low points, 3 low points, 3 half high links, 39 high points, 3 high half links, 3 low points, turn the job.

3 rounds: 6 very low points, 3 low points, 3 half high links, 21 high points, 3 half high links, 3 low points, turn the job.

4 rounds: 6 low points, 5 low points, 5 half high links, 1 high point, 5 high half links, 5 low points.

Tie it right under your arms.

Explanation of the belt.

Start 50 little chains.

1 lap: 47 double crochet (48 in total taking into account the 3 chains that replace the first double crochet).

2 round: 48 double crochet.

Sew the edges to close the belt.

Explanation of the buckle.

Start 11 little chains.

1 lap: a single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at a point, 2 triple crochet at a point for 2 times, 2 double crochet at a point, 2 half double crochet, a single crochet, redo equal from other side of the chains.

Sew it in the middle of the belt.

Explanation of the star.

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: a single crochet, a half double crochet, a slip stitch in the first of the 4 initial chains. Redo equal for a total of 5 times.

Sew it to the buckle.

Now insert the complete belt into the trunk, a little below the handkerchief.

Explanation of the mouth.

Start 18 little chains.

1 round: 16 double crochet, turn the job.

2 rounds: 2 single crochet, a half double crochet, 10 double crochet, a half double crochet, 2 single crochet, turn the job.

3 rounds: 2 slip stitch, 2 single crochet, a half double crochet, 6 double crochet, a half double crochet, 2 single crochet, turn the job.

4 rounds: 2 slip stitch, 2 single crochet, a half double crochet, 4 double crochet, a half double crochet, 2 single crochet.

5 round: With the black cotton take a round of single crochet, to outline the contour.

Always use black cotton to make a sort of grid to create your teeth. Now sew it to the cactus to create Pedro's mouth.

Explanation of the mustache.

Start 4 little chains and in the first step: 3 double crochet (total 4)

1 lap: a double crochet, 2 double crochet at a point 3 times, a double crochet.

2 rounds: 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet at a point 2 times, 2 double crochet.

3 rounds: 3 double crochet, 2 double crochet at a point 2 times, 3 double crochet.

4 lap: a double crochet, 2 double crochet closed together for 4 times, a double crochet.

5 lap: a double crochet, 2 double crochet closed together twice, a double crochet.

Now, if necessary, to give a "full" shape to the whiskers, insert some cotton wool.

6 round: 4 double crochet.

7 lap: a double crochet, 2 double crochet closed together, a double crochet.

8 lap: 3 double crochet closed together.

Of mustache obviously you will have to make 2 and sew them just over the mouth leaving a small space in the middle.

Explanation of the eyes.

Start 9 little chains.

1 lap: a single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet at a point for 2 times, 2 half double crochet, a single crochet, redo equal from the other side of the chains.

Now with the black cotton we make the pupil and we start 2 little chains and in the first make 7 single crochet.

Sew it to the white of the eye. Obviously we will prepare 2 to sew immediately over the mustache.

Explanation of the eyebrows.

Start 9 little chains and make these: a single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 5 double crochet.

Prepare 2 and sew them just above the eyes giving it the right angle.
