How to crochet s Verbena flower

An ornamental plant that with its small and colorful flowers brightens and colors our gardens. Very useful in the garden because with the intensity of the scent of its flowers it attracts many butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects.
Verbena is also a medicinal plant known for some time for its beneficial properties.
To make the crocheted Verbena it is necessary to prepare the flower, the calyx and the leaves.
Required: cotton number 10 and number 20 - crochet hook 1.0 mm - galvanized iron wire 0.45 mm - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

For the leaves I used cotton number 10, for everything else the number 20.

Explanation of the flower

Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st and 2nd round: 10 double crochet.
3rd round: 15 double crochet (increase every 2 points). Cotton color change.
4th round: 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochet in one stitch 2 times, 2 chain stitches. 1 slip stitch and repeat the same one more time.

Go down with slip stitch up to the turn of the 15 double crochet and repeat the same for a total of 5 petals.

Explanation of the chalice

Cast on 4 chain stitches and in the first chain make 11 double crochet (total 12).

1st and 2nd round: 12 double crochet.
3rd round: always 12 double crochet, every 2 points make a picot (3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch).

Cut about 6 cm of galvanized iron wire and in the center wrap a little cotton (same color as the first few turns of the flower), to form a ball that will be the pistil of the flower. Twist the iron wire on itself for about 1-2 cm, the remaining iron wire will be used to attach the flower to the stem.

Insert the pistil into the flower and then into the glass. Cover the small union stem with cotton by working around the chains.
Make all the flowers you need for your composition.

Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Bend a tip 2 times to form a knot (help with pliers). Immediately under the knot fasten all the flowers creating the classic corolla.

Explanation of the leaf

Cast on 19 chain stitches.
Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete turn of the chains plus 2 cm more per side. Insert it to them by working 18 single crochet on one side and the other.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 4 triple crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side. 1 slip stitch in the center of the wire to get to the other side.
2nd round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet and 2 chain stitches in one stitch and 1 slip stitch. Repeat the same for the whole turn of the leaf.
Tighten the leaf well and twist the iron wire on itself for 2-3 times. Close the job.

Make all the leaves you need for your composition.

Fasten the leaves to the stem just below the corolla of the flowers, alternating them in position.
Cover the stem with cotton by working around the chains except for about 2 cm which will be inserted in the vase.
