Crochet fat plant explanation: Sea Urchin

Observing the perfect symmetry of this succulent plant one perceives the perfection that mother nature gives to her creatures. This small cactus called “sea urchin” is characterized by many white and very soft spots that outline its shape.
The sea urchin cactus is the fifth plant that is part of the composition of crochet fat plants.
To make the crochet sea urchin cactus, you need to prepare the plant, the thorns, the glass and the flower.

Needs: cotton number 10 and number 20 - crochet 1.0 mm - scissors - needle - plasticized wire - wadding - pliers.
For the plant and the glass I used the number 10 cotton, for the rest the number 20.
Explanation of the plant

Start 4 chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12).

1st round: 2 double crochet at one point, 1 double crochet worked by inserting the hook at the back of the next stitch. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
2nd round: 3 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
3rd round: 4 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
4th round: 5 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
5th round: 6 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
Lap 6: 7 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
7th lap: 8 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
Lap 8: 9 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
9th and 10th lap: 10 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
11th lap: 9 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
12th lap: 8 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
13: round: 7 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.
Lap 14: 6 double crochet, 1 double crochet in the back. Repeat the same for a total of 6 times.

Explanation of thorns

Starting from the bottom of the plant, count two turns, insert the hook in the middle of a section between one groove and the other of the plant and do: 1 single crochet, 4 chains and in the first do 2 double crochet, 1 very low point in the first chain. Count three turns and repeat the same three more times.

With very low points approach the center of the next section between one groove and the other and repeat the same for all the circumference of the plant.
Turn the work upside down and insert the hook at the ball and pull it out. Continue like this around the entire circumference of the plant.
Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the length and thickness appropriate to the work being carried out. Bend it into a fork, wrap a little wadding in the center and insert it into the plant. Continue filling by shaping with your hands to achieve the desired shape.

Make 2 sections.

Explanation of the middle petals section

Start 7 chains and close them in a circle.

1st round: 7 chains and in these do: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 1 slip stich. Repeat the same for a total of 7 times.

If you need to starch and shape the various sections of petals.

Explanation of the pistil

Start 4 chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st round: 1 slip stitch, skip 1 base point. Repeat the same for a total of 5 times.

Close the job by keeping the cotton a little long.
Insert the needle into the pistil cotton, then in order to insert: the section of middle petals and the two sections of large petals. With 3-4 stitches attach the pistil to the various sections of petals by completing the flower.

Sew the glass from the widest part to the flower and from the narrowest part to the plant.
Arrange the flower petals and shape the plant. Cut off the excess of plasticized iron wire leaving about two cm that will allow the cactus to be inserted into the vase.

To embellish with some pebble or tuft of grass so alone or to be included in a composition of succulent plants. Free space for your imagination.
