How to crochet a Zinnia
This rustic
plant brightens up every garden attracting with its bright and colorful colors
even the beautiful butterflies. The most colorful part of my garden is in fact
the one where there are the zinnias that keep me company all summer until late
autumn. A flower that symbolizes simplicity, perhaps because it has no
fragrance and also because it requires little care.
To make the
crochet zinnia, prepare 4 sections of petals of different sizes, a small
central section, pistil, goblet and leaves.
Required: cotton number 20 and number 10 - crochet 1.0mm - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45mm - plasticized iron wire - wadding - pliers.
Required: cotton number 20 and number 10 - crochet 1.0mm - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45mm - plasticized iron wire - wadding - pliers.
For the
glass and the leaves I used the number 10 cotton, for all the rest it is always
the number 20.
Explanation
of the first section of petals.
Start 10
little chains and close them in a circle.
1
revolution: 20 single crochet.
2 rounds:
10 little chains and in these steps: count backwards 4 little chains and from
the fifth make a triple crochet, 2 double triple crochet, a triple crochet, a double
crochet, a half double crochet, a single crochet, a slip stitch. A slip stitch
and repeat the same for a total of 9 petals.
Explanation
of the second section of petals.
Start 11
little chains and close them in a circle.
1 round: 22
single crochet.
2 rounds:
11 little chains and in these: count backwards 4 little chains and from the
fifth round: a triple crochet, 3 double triple crochet, a triple crochet, a double
crochet, a half double crochet, a single crochet, a slip stitch. A slip stitch
and redo the same for a total of 10 petals.
Explanation
of the third section of petals.
Start 12
little chains and close them in a circle.
1
revolution: 24 single crochet.
2 rounds:
12 little chains and in these: count backwards 4 little chains and from the
fifth round: a triple crochet, 4 double triple crochet, a triple crochet, a double
crochet, a half double crochet, a single crochet, a slip stitch. A slip stitch
and redo the same for a total of 11 petals.
Explanation
of the fourth section of petals.
Start 13
little chains and close them in a circle.
1 lap: 26 single
crochet.
2 rounds:
13 little chains and in these: count backwards 4 little chains and from the
fifth round: a triple crochet, 5 double triple crochet, a triple crochet, a double
crochet, a half double crochet, a single crochet, a slip stitch. A slip stitch
and redo for a total of 12 petals.
Cut a piece
of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness to make the
stem.
Bend a tip
twice to form a small knot (help yourself with a forceps).
Explanation
of the small central section.
Start 4
little chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12).
1 round: 12
double crochet.
Insert the
stem and some cotton wool or cotton wool to fill in the empty spaces. Go around
the single crochet and then with some slip stitch close the work holding firmly
inside the stem.
Explanation
of the pistil.
Start 7
little chains and close them in a circle.
1 round: 8
little chains, a single crochet. Repeat equal for a total of 14 arches.
Assemble
the flower inserting in order the pistil, the first, second, third and fourth
section of petals. If you see that the petals do not take the shape you can
star them (much depends on the type of cotton used).
Explanation
of the glass.
Start 4 little
chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).
1 lap:
every 2 points make a raise, 2 little chains and a slip stitch. In total we
would have 15 double crochet and 5 pippiolini.
The glass
is the same for both the flower and the bud.
Explanation
of the bud.
1 round: 10
little chains and in these steps: count backwards 4 little chains and from the
fifth step: 4 triple crochet, a double crochet, a half double crochet, a slip
stitch. A slip stitch and redo the same for a total of 7 petals.
For the
stem of the bud there is no need to make a central section or pistil, just make
a small knot on a point that will act as a pivot to hold the bud firmly. In the
stem insert the bud and then the cup that will keep the petals closed. It does
not require stitching.
The goblet
intended for the flower, after having inserted it into the stem, will instead
be filled with little cotton wool or cotton wool and sewn to the section of
petals. It will stay nice when the stem is covered.
Explanation of the leaf.
Start 20
little chains.
1 lap: 3 single
crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 5 triple crochet, 2 double
crochet, 2 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Redo equal to the other side
of the chains.
2 rounds: 3
single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 7 triple crochet (make
2 increases), 2 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat
same to the other side.
Cut a piece
of galvanized iron wire that makes the complete turn of the leaf 2 times more 2
cm each side and work around a round of single crochet to insert it to the
leaf.
Tighten
the leaf well and twist the iron wire on itself 2-3 times, make 2-3 little
chains around this small stem and without cutting the cotton work another
identical leaf. To then get to the wire and work the single crochet go down
with slip stitch. Tighten this leaf well, shape it with your hands and close
the work.
Make all
the leaves that you need both for the flowers and for the buds and tie them to
the stem. Then coat the stem with the cotton working around the chains, except
those 2-3 cm that will be inserted into the vase.
You can
make a small colored flowerbed like I did or even a small jar of zinnias, or
put them in a composition with other flowers. Free space for your
imagination.
I hope as
always to have explained everything to the best and to have given you an idea
more. Hello everyone, see you next time.
