How to crochet a Gardenia
An
ornamental plant that makes us think of the subtle charm of the Orient from
which it comes. Simple and elegant at the same time gardenia is very
appreciated for its white and fragrant flowers but also for its beautiful
evergreen foliage.
To make
crochet gardenia, prepare 5 sections of petals of different sizes, small leaves
that replace the calyx, the bud and the leaves.
Needed: cotton number 20 and number 10 - crochet 1.0mm - scissors - needle - galvanized iron wire 0.45mm - plasticized iron wire - pliers.
For the
glass and the leaves I used the number 10 cotton, for all the rest it is always
the number 20.
Explanation
of the first section of petals.
Start 4
little chains and in the first make 7 double crochet (total 8). Turn the job.
1 round: 2 double
crochet, a triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point for 2 times, a triple
crochet, 2 double crochet. Go down with slip stitch until the first chain of
the 4 initial and redo another equal petal.
Explanation
of the second section of petals.
Start 5
little chains and close them in a circle.
1
revolution: 9 single crochet.
2 round: 4 double
crochet at a point twice. Turn the job.
3 rounds: 2
half double crochet, one double crochet, 3 double crochet in one point for
times, one double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Turn the job.
4 rounds: 2
half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 double crochet in a point for 2 times,
3 double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Go down with slip stitch until the single
crochet turn. A slip stitch and repeat the same for a total of 3 petals.
Explanation
of the third section of petals.
1
revolution: 12 single crochet.
2 round: 4 double
crochet at a point twice. Turn the job.
3 rounds: 2
double crochet, a triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point for 2 times, a
triple crochet, 2 double crochet. Turn the job.
4 rounds: 2
double crochet, 3 triple crochet, 3 triple crochet 2 times, 3 triple crochet, 2
double crochet. Go down with slip stitch until the single crochet turn. A slip
stitch and repeat the same for a total of 4 petals.
Explanation
of the fourth section of petals.
1
revolution: 15 single crochet.
2 round: 4 double
crochet at a point twice. Turn the job.
3 rounds: 2
half double crochet, one double crochet, 3 double crochet in one point for 2
times, one double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Turn the job.
4 rounds: 2
half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 double crochet in a point for 2 times,
3 double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Turn the job.
5 rounds: 2
half double crochet, 5 double crochet, 3 double crochet in a point for 2 times,
5 double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Turn the job.
6 rounds: 2
half double crochet, 7 double crochet, 3 double crochet in one point for 2
times, 7 double crochet, 2 half double crochet. Go down with slip stitch until
the single crochet turn. A slip stitch and repeat for a total of 5 petals.
Explanation
of the 5 section of petals.
Start 7
little chains and close them in a circle.
1
revolution: 18 single crochet.
2 round: 4 double
crochet at a point twice. Turn the job.
3 rounds: 2
double crochet, a triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point for 2 times, a triple
crochet, 2 double crochet. Turn the job.
4 rounds: 2
double crochet, 3 triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point 2 times, 3 triple
crochet, 2 double crochet. Turn the job.
5 rounds: 2
double crochet, 5 triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point for 2 times, 5 triple
crochet, 2 double crochet. Turn the job.
6 rounds: 2
double crochet, 7 triple crochet, 3 triple crochet in a point 2 times, 7 triple
crochet, 2 double crochet. Go down with slip stitch until the single crochet
turn. A slip stitch and repeat the same for a total of 6 petals.
Cut a piece
of plasticized iron wire of the length and thickness appropriate to the stem of
the gardenia. Wrap several times on a light yellow cotton to form a small ball.
Curve the tip of the stem (help yourself with a forceps) to lock the ball and
create the small pistil that will act as a pivot to hold the various sections
of petals and create the flower.
Explanation
of the bud.
1 and 2
rounds: 24 double crochet.
3 and 4
laps: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole lap. Before closing the
fourth round insert the stem (same procedure of the flower stem without the
yellow cotton) and stuff it with cotton wool or cotton wool. Close the fourth
round.
5 lap: 2
more double crochet closed together for the whole lap.
6 lap: 2-3 slip
stitch and close the work.
Explanation
of the small leaf.
1 lap: 2 single
crochet, 2 half double crochet, one double crochet, 2 triple crochet in one
point, one double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 single crochet. Repeat same
on the other side of the chains. Without cutting the cotton make another identical
leaf by working an extra chain (it will be the central one where the stem will
be inserted).
To assemble
the flower insert into the stem in order from the first to the fifth section of
petals and then the pair of leaflets that replace the glass. Insert the pair of
small leaves also in the stem of the bud.
Explanation
of the leaf.
Start 25
little chains.
1 round: 3 single
crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 6 triple crochet, 3 double
crochet, 3 high double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat same to the other side
of the chains.
2 rounds: 3
single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 9 triple crochet (3
increases), 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat
same to the other side. Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that runs the
complete circle of 2 leaves plus 2 cm each side and insert it to the leaf by
working around a circle of single crochet. Tighten the leaf well and twist on
itself 2-3 times the wire to stop the work. Without cutting the cotton make
another identical leaf. To then get to the wire to work the low points go down
with slip stitch. Tighten the leaf well, shape it with your hands and close the
work.
Make all
the leaves that you need both for the flowers and the buds and tie them to the
stem. This will then be coated with cotton working around the chains.
Place all
the stems inside a vase, alternating flowers and buds to create your gardenia
seedling.
As always I
hope I have explained everything to the best and I wish good creation to
everyone. Goodbye see you soon.
